2008 Wimbledon Championships Schedule

The 2008 Wimbledon Championships will take place from Monday 23 June to Sunday 6 July. The main events, men’s and ladies singles, men’s and ladies doubles and the mixed doubles usually span both weeks and the lesser events like the invitational and junior events are generally held during the second week.

Traditionally the ‘middle’ Sunday is set aside as a rest day, and no play takes place. There have, however, been three occasions when play has resumed on the Sunday due to rain delays. During these occasions the organisers have staged a ‘People’s Sunday’, where unreserved seating is made available at very reasonable prices so that the less well-heeled may take in the excitement of the show courts.

Occasionally the tournament does not end on the second Sunday, normally, again, due to rain delays. A ’People’s Monday’ is then organised with the same benefits as the ‘People’s Sunday’.

Times of Play

• The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club opens at 10.30am each day of the tournament.
• Courts 2-19 – Play is scheduled to start at 12pm for the first eight days.
• Courts 2-19 - During the junior matches and in the second week, play is scheduled to start at 11am.
• Centre Court and Court 1 – Play will begin at 1pm except for the final two days when play will resume at 2pm.
