2008 Wimbledon Ladies Final Result

Venus Williams defeated her sister Serena in the 2008 Wimbledon ladies final yesterday to claim her 5th Wimbledon title in eight years. The match, billed as the ‘Sister Slam’, was a replay of the 2003 Wimbledon final where Serena claimed her only Wimbledon title to date.

However it was Venus’s turn to shine in 2008 as she ruthlessly dominated her younger sister, coming back from an early deficit in the first set to win the match in straight sets and take a 7-5, 6-4 win.

“I'm definitely more in tune with my sister's feelings because one of us has to win and one of us has to lose," Venus said in an uncharacteristically low-key response to taking the match. "You could never detract from winning a Wimbledon, so of course it doesn't detract from that. But I'm definitely thinking about how my sister's feeling."

Incredibly, both sisters were back in action just half an hour later to contest the women’s doubles finals. With the Williams sisters on the same side of the net, their opponents had no chance, and Venus duly wrapped up her second Wimbledon title in one day as she and her sister defeated Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur 6-2, 6-2.
