Wimbledon 2008 Women's Final Preview

Saturday marks the second occasion that the Williams sisters will meet in a Wimbledon final.

After a sensational tournament that featured a series of shocking upsets, the women’s draw comes down to a battle between the 6th and 7th seeds and a replay of the 2003 Wimbledon final.

Venus Williams lost on that occasion as Serena claimed her only Wimbledon title to date 4–6, 6–4, 6–2. However fans will remember that Venus suffered an abdominal injury prior to the game and was not at full fitness for the crucial encounter.

Despite the fact that Venus Williams has shown the better form during the tournament, Serena Williams goes into the 2008 Wimbledon final as 8/11 favourite. However, Venus is not priced far off and will pay out evens if she wins the match.

Surprisingly the Williams sisters have only met on 15 occasions during their WTA careers. Serena holds a slender lead in their head-to-head score, with 8 victories to Venus’s 7.

While the majority of Venus’s victories were achieved early in her career, she has shown the strongest form over the last year and is a good bet to level matters on Centre Court on Saturday.
